Enclosure 1.

2.

132

In order to remove this source of danger

to the public using the Tramway, the Company have decided to carry out an extensive re-grading of the line above and below the point at which the depressors occur as shown on the enclosed plan. As the carrying out of this work in- volves the grant of certain additional small areas of Crown land, it is necessary to submit the proposals for your

sanction and approval.

3.

I may mention that, when the Peak Tramway

was constructed (1883-1888), the land required, which con- sisted of rough hillside, was granted as a free concession. Subsequent to the opening of the Tramway, owing largely to developments which have occurred, the Company found it des- irable to construct stations at intermediate points and small areas of Crown land have been granted to them on short leases for this purpose. One of these stations, known as Plantation Road Station, is involved in the alterations now proposed. It is at present held under a lease which will expire on the 25th December, 1925, subject to a Crown rent of $5 per

annum.

I enclose a copy of the conditions which I caused to be communicated to the Company as the terms on

These

which I was prepared to agree to their proposals, conditions have now been accepted by the Company and I accordingly submit them for your sanction and approval.

I have the honour to be,

Sir,

Your most obedient,

humble servant,

Governor,

&C..
